Name: Noctis Lucis Caelum Door: Door Pass Canon: Final Fantasy XV Canon Point: During Chapter 8, before the party boards the ship to Altissia from Cape Caem Age: 20 Appearance: here History:wiki link Personality:Noct at the heart of everything is a nice person who has no idea how to respond to the pressures of the world. It was stated a few times by Ignis, his retainer who grew up with him, that Noct was a lively and friendly child before the daemon attack when he was around 7-8, shown in Brotherhood. It left a huge mark on his personality, becoming much more quiet and withdrawn after that, as well as notable long-lasting injuries. The trauma of that incident was something he never quite got over, and it shows in his personality even up to high school days. In Brotherhood, Luna stated that she was worried he didn't have many friends, and it was pretty obvious he didn't really talk to anyone in school. Noct, because of the depression and trauma and his upbringing, doesn't really know how to talk and communicate with people well, and he never really initiates anything. His way of dealing with problems is often avoiding them, especially when he doesn't know how else to do. This leads a lot of people to think he's aloof and uncaring, when in fact he's shown many times he cares deeply about his friends, he just forgets that he doesn't show it outright, and people can understandably get confused by that. Even when he's closed off and slightly anti-social, he's still shown to be curious and helpful to other people, examples being him constantly sneaking out at night while Ignis covered for him and again in Brotherhood when he helped Gladio's sister, Iris out by getting in trouble for her. He'd rather take the fall for someone than them being blamed for it instead. Prompto finally coming up to him and becoming his friend was a huge turning point for his personality. Even before when Prompto was trying to work up the courage to talk to him, Noct seemed sort of waiting and hopeful that he'd make the first move, but again too awkward and shy to do it. But in high school when they finally 'officially' met, Noct smiles and seems excited that Prompto is now his friend. He goes out a lot more and does many more normal things after becoming friends, so having a friend like Prompto definitely opened him up and started bringing out the lively personality that had been hidden by the trauma and pressure of being the prince. He of course, still cares about Gladio and Ignis' opinions, them being the other two important people in his life, but Prompto was one of the first to start treating him just like a normal kid. Noct is reluctant as his role of the Prince and true 'savior' of the world, but in Ignis' brotherhood episode, it's shown that he knows exactly the situation and what's going on, he's just having a hard time accepting it, since it's so much pressure put on him at a young age, especially when he never wanted it in the first place. That extends until the start of the game and beyond that, though we also see he cares deeply about his father. He brushes him off like a typical teenager, but is deeply upset and depressed for awhile after hearing that Insomnia fell and his father was killed. Noct's biggest thing is that he cares so much for other people, but he has no way of expressing it and starts to withdraw and shut down if it becomes too overwhelming. He doesn't want other people to see him upset and it just makes him seem uncaring to everything else because he's struggling so much with containing his own emotions. This is something that doesn't change much over the course of the journey, though he becomes more open and thankful to his friends as time goes on. He still struggles with handling affection directed towards him, often brushing it off or saying sarcastic things like he doesn't really care. But getting out in the world definitely expands his horizons and draws out his natural curiosity. It's remarked several times that he'll pick anything he finds up off the ground, will randomly stop if some of his teammates ask him to take a picture or go look at something, and gets incredibly excited when they see a new fishing spot or something cool. He loves fishing and can be seen to be geniunely excited whenever he's doing it, to the point where he gets annoyed if his friends aren't paying attention to him fish. He also enjoys talking to other people like Navyth who are fishers as well, and seems to take to being a Hunter pretty well. Noct does complain a lot when they spend a long time out in the wilderness or have to camp a lot instead of staying at a caravan or motel, but often times its mostly just to complain. He doesn't seem to care too much if they have to keep staying outside, even with expressing his distaste. Noct is also shown to not have a very assertive personality especially when it comes to strong willed people. Dino, in his sidequest chain remarks how easy it is to get Noct to say yes to anything he wants, and there are a few others where he doesn't even get a chance to refuse he just accepts this task is pushed on him. He does like helping people, and is pretty easily manipulated into doing things for them. It's a bit different with his friends, but he's shown multiple times to care about what they want to do, even if he's really bad at expressing it. He'll stop for Prompto whenever he wants to take photos, and also agrees to take a detour down to the chocobo farm for him, because he's also excited to see the chocobos. Also he even stops to let Prompto take wierd pictures of him, stating outright 'fine, if it will make you happy'. He's perfectly okay with doing wierd things if it makes his friends happy, also because he feels there is not a lot else he can do. There's also a good deal of self-loathing that he keeps buried deep. Because he's the next King of Lucis, and with his dad dying so suddenly and the mantle falling onto him without expecting it, Noct feels that he's definitely not worthy of all this and knows he's not ready. He's not sure what to do and doesn't want to ask anyone else because of his tendency to shut down and not bother people with things. Also now that he's hunted people keep getting hurt and killed in their efforts to protect him and he hates it. He doesn't like the fact that its his friends jobs to die for them, even if they are completely accepting of this role. He also probably has a secret belief buried down that if it wasn't because of their job, Ignis and Gladio wouldn't really want to hang out with him, that he's nothing special except the fact he was born the Prince. He pretends like this doesn't bother him, being cocky in his battle quotes, but it's not exactly genuine. By the time in his canon, his bonds haven't truly been tested, so it's hard for him to be aware just of how much he cares about and loves all of his friends. But he does, and even if he's not exactly good at everything he does, Noct's willing to go above and beyond for the people he's attached to. He just had many traumatic experiences and not enough socializing to know how to deal with the anger and depression that hides the softer side of his personality from everyone else. Powers and Abilities: Warping/Teleporting: Noct can sort of teleport, though it's a line of sight ability. He's able to pass through walls and obstacles with this ability, but he can only teleport to where he can throw his weapon/see, since that's a necessary part of a warp strike. He can also do some close up dodging by teleporting and leaving a blue shadow of himself behind like a shadowstep, but he doesn't travel as far with that. When he does warp, he leaves a blue streak behind him. Magic: Like all other Lucian royalty, Noct has the ability to use magic. The elements of the spells he can use are fire, lightning and ice, and he has a special bond with Ignis, Prompto and Gladio (and possibly Cor Leonis) that allows them to also use magic spells and the special armigar/hammerspace thing. Noct can also infuse energy drinks with healing powers to make potions and elixirs. Armigar: This is basically the royal family's special hammerspace, and armory. Noct stores his weapons and items in it, so he can pull them out whenever he needs them, except when his magic is being jammed. HE can carry four different weapons on him at once, as well as his fishing rod or other implements like those. Summoning: After Noct makes a contract with the Astrals, or the deities of his world of Eos, he can summon them when he is in trouble or under duress in battle. As of his point in canon, he has a contract with Titan, Ramuh, and Garuda, but will most likely be unable to summon them upon leaving his own canon. Noct is also pretty skilled as a jack of all trades with a bunch of various different weapon types, and probably has some hand-to-handing fighting knowledge. Inventory: In his Armigar (if he has access to that), he's carrying his engine blade, a greatsword, and a pair of daggers. He also has his fishing rod, a few various healing potions leftover, and outside of his armigar he has his cell phone, and a chocobo whistle. His friends, without him seemed to have moved on and while he was happy for them, the depression settling in his stomach wouldn't leave. They really were so much better off without him; even with all the changes the future had brought, they'd found a place and people to be with. Noct was, well....he was a king. And here he was nothing. It should've been a freeing feeling but it just left him with the realization of just how useless a person he was. He traced a finger along the ground, wondering how being in such a dream like state made things feel so solid. He didn't know what to do, and he couldn't ask Ignis. Dimly, he realized that he should probably for once figure stuff out for himself, but didn't know where to start. Noct wasn't good at talking to people, nor was he very good at reading their emotions. He could only hope that they wouldn't leave him behind like this. Noct took another breath. It was pathetic, that all he could do was sit here and feel sorry for himself. He had to at least try. It was Iggy and Prompto, and Gladio and everyone. They had done everything for him. "Okay, so you're bad at talking to people, but just tell the truth and maybe it will work out." He stood up, brushing himself off, and fixing one his sleeves idly. 'We can't have an unkempt prince', Ignis always said. Ugh. He had to stop sitting around and thinking in circles at this point. He should just keep going no matter how bad he felt. 'Walk tall', as his dad had said. He wasn't going to lose his friends.
